An advocate for building community in education, Dr. Jen Stansbury Koenig has more than fifteen years of experience with evaluation at local, state, and federal levels. Dr. Koenig’s research has focused on inquiry-based instruction; understanding the role of professional learning communities in education; assessing the impacts of school counseling; and researching mentor-mentee relationships and leadership development.
Prior to serving as a Research Associate at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Koenig directed the Northern Kentucky Center for Educator Excellence. In this role, she collaborated with faculty at Northern Kentucky University and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst to co-found the annual Evidence-Based School Counseling National Conference, now hosted by the Ronald H. Frederickson Center for School Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation. In Northern Kentucky, Dr. Koenig is a recognized Champion for Education (2015), currently serves on local school boards, volunteers as a podcast hostess and president of the HSCT Warriors, Inc. nonprofit, and is an avid listener and promoter of local music and artists.

ELS 700: Leader’s Role in the Design of Quality Practices and Projects (currently teaching)
This capstone course provides an opportunity for students to conduct an employer-based research project and presentation or a faculty approved program initiative involving elements and functions of a dynamic leadership program.
EDM 621: Educational Change and Effectiveness
This course explores how teacher leaders can be catalysts for change by deepening their knowledge about educational policy and affecting change in diverse school settings. This course considers how broader trends affect the structure and purpose of educational systems, how changes within education affect the wider society, how systems of schooling themselves change, and the prospects for planned change within systems of schooling. Finally, this course will discuss the framework for professional learning communities, systematic change, and effectiveness through a review of literature.
Northern Kentucky University:
PAD 626: Nonprofit Program Evaluation
Introduction to methods and practices of program evaluation in the nonprofit sector, evaluation and planning, program evaluation design and implementation, through a Service Learning experience. Partner organizations include: Children, Inc., Elementz, Inner-City Tennis Project, and Pones, Inc.
PAD 623: Grant Writing
Practical hands-on approach to grant writing and knowledge of the grant systems. Topics include identifying potential funding sources, applications for funding assistance, letters of intent, requests for proposals from federal and state government agencies, applications for funding from corporate and private foundation sources.
